DMI Offline or DMI Failure

Problem

DMI status in TMI navigation view is Offline, or in the case of an MX2 system, status in POSView is DMI Failure.

Solution

There are multiple solutions depending on the system in use. Check the details below.

Problem Details

There could be several reasons for the problem.

MX50/MX9/MX7 systems:

  • Wheel radius is incorrect or has the wrong sign. Measure the wheel radius and enter it into the vehicle parameters with the correct mounting side.

  • DMI lever arms are incorrect or have the wrong signs. Measure the lever arms again and ensure correct axis definitions are considered. If in doubt, rely on the DMI manual.

MX2 systems:

  • DMI Type is set to Quadrature. Open PosConfig.exe from installation directory and change type to Pulse & Direction.

  • Scale Factor is incorrect or has the wrong sign. Measure the wheel radius and enter the correct scale factor from the formula : SF= 1024/(2*pi*radius). Positive if on the right side , negative if on the left side of the vehicle.

  • DMI lever arms are incorrect or have the wrong signs. Measure the lever arms again and ensure correct axis definitions are considered. If in doubt, rely on the DMI manual.

  • LVPOSview version mismatch between the firmware and the controller.

For all systems, perform the following DMI hardware checks:

  • DMI cables are torn, show signs of wear, or are not plugged in correctly. Clean any dirt from the cable and ensure they are plugged in correctly, or if in bad condition, buy new cables.

  • The DMI is not installed correctly, is fixed with only two screws or is rattling in place. Tighten the screws as much as you can.

  • The plate connecting the DMI and the wheel is loose. Tighten the screws.

  • The ceramic plate inside the DMI encoder is broken. If you shake the encoder itself you will hear it rattling. Get a new DMI encoder.
