Power issue
Problem
Unstable initialization process with no clear symptoms and rather chaotic behaviour.
Solution
Please check:
- Make sure the battery powering the MX9 is being charged by the car's alternator.
- Make sure the car engine is running before turning on the MX9.
- Try starting the air conditioning (to trigger the alternator) while the MX9 is booting up. You can turn off the air conditioning once the MX9 is booted
- Measure the voltage on the battery. If it is >12.7V, the battery is OK and fully charged.
- Measure the voltage on the battery while the MX9 is booting up. If it drops below 12V, even for a fraction of a second, this may prevent the MX9 components from initializing.
- Try connecting the MX9 power in another vehicle, or to a stable DC (12V to 16V) power source plugged to the house electricity grid.
Recommended: Set up the power like one of the Typical Power Supply Setups that are described in the appendix of the MX9 user guide.
Problem Details
Insufficient power will generally cause issues during initialization. Insufficient power may occur, for example, if the car was left for too long without being charged. Consider the following power requirements:
- Input Voltage Range: 12 V to 16 V DC (280 W typical).
- DC Current at start-up: 25 A @ 13.8 V (345 W).
- DC Current in steady state operation (depends on temperature): 20 A @ 13.8 V (276 W).
