MX9 System takes long time to or fail to boot up

Problem

In some situations, an MX system might take a long time to boot up or it might fail to boot up. Usually the boot-up process of a system is about 90 seconds. During this process, the three LEDs in the Control Unit (WIFI, Sensor Unit, and Control Unit) change from blinking to solid green, indicating that the system is ready to be operated.

Solution

It's important to note that for smoother system operation and to prevent potential issues, systems should be running TMI version (v4.0.7) or newer version. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot MX system boot-up issues.

  1. Turn the MX system OFF.
    • If the system fails to boot up, the Control Unit LED will blink red after some minutes; turn OFF the system by pressing the ON/FF Button in the Control Unit. The shutdown process will start, and it will be indicated with the three LEDs blinking green.
    • If the system takes a long time to boot up, Connection to TMI is still possible, so you can connect to the system and turn it off via the TMI interface.
  2. Remove the SSDs from the control unit.
    • For MX9 and MX90, 2 SSDs must be removed.
    • For MX50, 1 SSD must be removed.
  3. Turn on the system (with no SSDs inserted).
  4. System will Boot Up within 90 seconds.
  5. Connect to TMI Interface.
    • TMI interface will show the status of the SSDs - Not Available.
    • Insert and lock the SSDs back in the control unit.
    • The SSD status will change from Not Available N/A to Available showing the SSDs size and available free space.
  6. Once the disk(s) are available, the system can be operated as usual.

Problem Details

One common scenario that can lead to MX system boot-up issues is when data is copied from external SSDs into a computer and the disk is disconnected without using the Windows option Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media. This can trigger the MX system to run repair tools in the background during the boot-up process.
