To key in an alignment

In Trimble Access, an alignment is a polyline. Alignments are saved as RXL files.

Alignments defined in General Survey always have a horizontal component that consists of straight lines, and optionally circular arcs. A vertical component is optional and consists of grades between points.

If you have the Roads software installed, you can include templates and superelevation and widening records when you create or edit a road. See Roads.

To create an alignment:

1. To open the Key in alignment screen, do one of the following:

   • Tap and select Key in / Alignments.

     If the Select an alignment screen appears, select the alignment from which to create a new alignment, or tap New. If the Select an alignment screen is not visible and you want to select an alignment, tap Select.

   • In the map, select the points, lines, arcs, or alignments from which to create a new alignment. From the tap and hold menu, select Key in alignment.

2. To enter the point names that define the alignment:

   Enter...	To...
   1,3,5	Create a line between points 1 to 3 to 5
   1–10	Create lines between all points from 1 through 10
   1,3,5–10	Create a line between points 1 to 3, to 5, and 5 through 10
   1(2)3	Create an arc between points 1 and 3, through point 2
   1(2,L)3	2 (Center point), L (left) or R (right) Create a Left hand arc between points 1 and 3, with point 2 as the center point
   1(100,L,S)3	1 to 3, radius=100, L (left) or R (right), L (large) or S (small) Create a Left hand Small arc between points 1 and 3 with a radius of 100

3. Select Store alignment and enter an Alignment name.

   This is the name used for the RXL file created when the alignment is stored.

4. Enter the String name.
5. Enter values for the Start station and the Station interval.
6. To offset the alignment, tap Offset. See To offset an alignment.
7. Tap Store.
