To stake out an alignment
To stake an alignment you can select it from the Stakeout menu or from the map.
You can stake a LandXML alignment only by selecting it from the map.
If the alignment does not already exist, you can create one by selecting features in the map, or you can key in the alignment before staking it out.
Before you start, configure your navigation display settings. You can stake relative to a DTM or the design elevation, if required.
To select the alignment from the map
- Make sure the linked files containing the features you want to select are visible and selectable in the map.
- In the map, tap the alignment.

Tap Stakeout.
The Stakeout screen for the alignment appears.
- Select the method in the Stake field.To stake out the alignment, refer to the topic for the selected method.
To create an alignment from the map
- Make sure the linked files containing the features you want to select are visible and selectable in the map.
- In the map, tap the alignment, polyline, or combination of points, lines, arcs, polylines and alignments you want to stake as an alignment.
The direction of an alignment is defined when it is created; it cannot be changed.
- If you selected any polylines, for each polyline tap the end of the polyline you want to be the start of the polyline.
You cannot set the direction of an existing alignment, as the direction of an alignment is defined when it is created and cannot be changed.
- To save the alignment before staking it out:
- Tap and hold in the map and then select Create/Stake out alignment.
Select Store alignment and enter an Alignment name.
This is the name used for the RXL file created when the alignment is stored.
- Enter the String name.
- Enter values for the Start station and the Station interval.
- To offset the alignment, tap Offset. See To offset an alignment.
Tap Next.
The Stakeout screen for the alignment appears.
To stake out the new alignment without saving it, tap and hold in the map and select Stake out alignment.
- Select the method in the Stake field.To stake out the alignment, refer to the topic for the selected method.
To select the alignment from the Stakeout menu
- Tap
and select Stakeout / Alignments. -
Select the alignment to stake.
- To configure the software to return to the Select a file screen when exiting the Stakeout menu instead of to the map, tap Options.
- Tap Next.
- Select the method in the Stake field.To stake out the alignment, refer to the topic for the selected method.
To key in an alignment
- Tap and select Stakeout / Alignments.

Tap New. The Key in alignment screen appears.

To enter the point names that define the alignment:
Enter... To... 1,3,5 Create a line between points 1 to 3 to 5 1–10 Create lines between all points from 1 through 10 1,3,5–10 Create a line between points 1 to 3, to 5, and 5 through 10 1(2)3 Create an arc between points 1 and 3, through point 2 1(2,L)3 2 (Center point), L (left) or R (right)
Create a Left hand arc between points 1 and 3, with point 2 as the center point
1(100,L,S)3 1 to 3, radius=100, L (left) or R (right), L (large) or S (small)
Create a Left hand Small arc between points 1 and 3 with a radius of 100

Select Store alignment and enter an Alignment name.
