Stakeout

Use the Stakeout function to stake out points, lines, arcs, polylines, alignments, roads, and DTMs. To use stake out you must start a survey.

Do not change the coordinate system or calibration after you have staked out items. If you do, the previously staked out points will be inconsistent with the new coordinate system and any points computed or staked out after the change.

To use GNSS for stake out, you must start an RTK survey. To stake out lines, arcs, polylines, alignments, or digital terrain models, you must define a projection and datum transformation.

You can stake out items that are already in the job, in a linked file, or by keying them in during stakeout.

To stake out an item

  1. Select the item to be staked out in the map and tap Stake out.

Alternatively, tap and select Stakeout and then select the item type to stake out. In the Stake out screen, select the item to stake out.

  2. Navigate to the point, or to the point designated as the start of the feature. Alternatively, direct the person holding the rod to the point.

During stakeout, the base of the screen displays the navigation deltas.

    • To select the delta display, tap the arrow to the left of the navigation deltas.
    • To change the delta display, tap Options. (In portrait mode, swipe right to left along the row of softkeys to view the Options softkey.)
    • To switch between the plan view and the cross section view, tap or , or press the Tab key.
  3. Mark the point.
  4. If required, measure the point.

Managing the list of Stake out items

If you select more than one item in the map and then tap Stakeout, the Stake out items list appears. Select each item in turn from the Stake out items list, navigate to it and stake it out before returning to the Stake out items list.

When the Stake out items list is shown alongside the map:

  • The currently selected list item is highlighted on the map.
  • Changing the items that are selected in the map updates the items in the Stake out items list, and removing items in the Stake out items list updates what is selected in the map.
  • To clear the Stake out items list, tap Rem all or double-tap in the map. If you accidentally clear the list, tap Undo to restore the list of Stake out items.

To set aside the Stake out items list tap Esc. The Stake out items list is remembered and you can return to it later.

When the Stake out items list is not open:

  • To clear the current map selection, double-tap in the map.
  • Select items in the map as usual to perform other functions, for example to key in features or compute Cogo calculations.
  • To return to the Stake out items list, tap Stakeout.
  • To add the current map selection to the current Stake out items list, tap and hold in the map and select Stakeout: x items, where x is the count of the items in the stakeout list as well as the number of items in the map. The Stake out items list opens, showing the updated list.

When selecting line, arc, or polyline features to stake out from the map, tap near the end of the feature that you want to designate as the start. Arrows are then drawn on the feature to indicate the direction. If the direction is incorrect, tap the feature to deselect it and then tap it at the correct end to reselect the feature in the direction required. Alternatively tap and hold in the map and select Reverse direction from the menu. If the feature has been offset, the offset directions are not swapped when the direction is reversed.
