To create a GNSS contact for a rover Internet data link

  1. Tap and select Settings / Connections / GNSS contacts.
  2. Tap New.
  3. Enter the contact Name.
  4. Set the Contact type to Internet rover.
  5. If the Route through controller setting is shown, select the appropriate settings for the modem you are using. If the modem is inside:

    • another device such as a mobile phone, set the Route through controller switch to Yes.
    • the receiver, then if incoming base data:
      • will be routed through the controller, enabling the controller to connect to the Internet for other functions such as downloading projects and jobs from the cloud while connected to the Internet data link during an RTK survey, set the Route through controller switch to Yes.

      • will not be routed through the controller, enabling the receiver but not the controller to connect to the Internet, set the Route through controller switch to No.

    • If you enable Route through controller when using the modem in the receiver, you must connect the controller to the receiver using Bluetooth. For other configurations you can use Bluetooth or a serial cable.
    • The modem in the Trimble R10-2/R12 receiver does not support Bluetooth Dial-up Networking (DUN), and so you cannot use the SIM card in the receiver and enable Route through controller. To route data through the controller, insert the SIM card in the controller and set the Route through controller field to On.
  6. If the Route through controller switch is set to Yes, select the Network connection for the controller to use to connect to the Internet and if required enter the Modem PIN.

You can enter the name of the connection or tap to view the Network connection screen and select the connection from the list.

If you are using the cellular modem in the controller, or a smartphone connected to the controller, to connect to the server over a 3G or 4G mobile broadband network, select Operating system – Wi-Fi, Cellular in the Network connection screen. See Internet connection setup.

  7. If the Route through controller switch is set to No:

    1. If required enter the Modem PIN.
    2. Specify the Access Point Name (APN) for the Internet service provider. This is the service provider that provided the SIM card in the receiver.

To use the Select Access Point Name (APN) wizard, tap and select your country in the Location field, and then select your Provider and plan. Tap Accept. The APN field is updated.

    3. Enter the Cellular username and Cellular password. By default these fields are both set to guest.
  8. If the controller is connecting to a broadcast server that provides more than one correction stream, select the correction stream to use:
    • If the rover will connect to the Trimble CenterPoint RTX correction service:

      1. Select the Use RTX (Internet) check box.
      2. In the Mountpoint name field, select the mountpoint appropriate for your RTX subscription and region. The RTXIP mountpoint is for global RTX corrections, while others are particular to specific network coverage areas.
      3. If required, select the Use proxy server check box and enter the proxy server address and port.
    • If the rover will connect to an NTRIP server:

      1. Select the Use NTRIP check box.
      2. To force the Trimble Access software to always use NTRIP version 1.0, select the Use NTRIP v1.0 check box.
      3. If required, select the Use proxy server check box and enter the proxy server address and port.
      4. To connect to a mountpoint on starting a survey without being prompted for the mountpoint name, select Connect directly to Mountpoint and enter the Mountpoint name.

If a mountpoint name is not specified, the system will prompt you when you start a survey. Your selection will then be stored in GNSS contacts. If the specified mountpoint cannot be accessed when you start the survey, a list with available mountpoints appears.

      5. If required, enter the NTRIP username and NTRIP password.
  9. If the controller is connecting to a:
    • Broadcast server, enter the IP Address and IP port of the server you obtained from the data provider.
    • Controller connected to the base receiver, use the IP Address and IP port values displayed in the IP Settings of this base field in the Base screen displayed on the controller at the base.

If the IP address of the base controller appears to be invalid, Trimble recommends that you perform a soft reset of the device before you connect to the Internet and start the base.

  10. If the rover must supply identification information through regular NMEA messages to the base data server, select the Send user identity info check box. At the start of the survey, the software asks you to enter this information.
  11. Tap Store.
