To stake out points
You can stake a single point or group of points from the map, or from the menu.
Before you start, configure your navigation display settings. You can stake relative to a DTM or the design elevation, if required.
When navigating to the point, you can navigate to and stake a new point defined by an azimuth and offset from the selected point, if required.
-
In a conventional survey, make sure the Target height is correct. To change the target height, tap the target icon in the status bar and edit the height of the target. Tap Accept.
In a GNSS survey, make sure the Antenna height and Measured to information is correct.
- Tap the point in the map and then tap Stakeout. Alternatively, double-tap the point.
- When the point is within tolerance, measure the point.
- Tap Store.
- If you selected the View before storage option, the staked deltas you selected in the Stakeout options screen are shown. Tap Store.
- Tap and select Stakeout / Points.
- If the Stake out items list appears beside the map, tap Point to change to staking a single point.
- Tap next to the Point name field and select:
- List to view a list of all points in the current job and linked files.
- Wildcard search to select from a filtered list of all points in the current job and linked files.
- Key in to key in the coordinates of the point to stake.
Tap Closest to populate the Point name field with the name of the closest point. (In portrait mode, swipe right to left along the row of softkeys to view more softkeys.) Closest searches the current job and all linked files to find the closest point that is not an as‑staked point or a design point for the as‑staked points.
- Enter the Point increment value. After measuring and storing the point, the software uses the Point increment value to determine the next point to stake. To:
- Return to the stake out point screen after staking a point, enter an increment of 0 or ?.
- Automatically increment to the next point, enter a valid increment value.
If a point does not exist using the increment specified, tap Cancel to return to this screen after staking a point. Alternatively, tap the Search button to find the next available point.
You can use a decimal point increment, for example 0.5. You can also increment the numeric component of a point name that ends in alpha characters, for example, you can increment 1000a by 1 to 1001a. To do this, tap and then clear the Apply to numeric only setting.
- Navigate to the point.
- When the point is within tolerance, measure the point.
- Tap Store.
- If you selected the View before storage option, the staked deltas you selected in the Stakeout options screen are shown. Tap Store.
-
The software uses the Point increment value to determine the next point to stake. If a point with the increment value exists, the name and navigation information for the next point are shown.
If the point does not exist, the Stake out point screen appears. Select the next point to stake. Tap Next to find the next point. If it does not exist, tap the Search button to find the next available point.
In a conventional survey, make sure the Target height is correct. To change the target height, tap the target icon in the status bar and edit the height of the target. Tap Accept.
In a GNSS survey, make sure the Antenna height and Measured to information is correct.
When staking a single point, you can still use a stake point list to ensure that you stake all required points. To do this, build the stake list, make sure that Remove staked point from list is enabled, and stake points using the stake a single point mode. As points are staked they will be removed from the stake list. Tap List as required to check which points still need to be staked.
To stake a group of points, you must create a list of items to stake out, and then select a point from the Stake out items list and stake it out. Once you have stored the point, the software shows the Stake out items list. Select the next point to stake out.
You can update the Stake out items list by changing point selections in the map, when the Stake out items list is displayed on the right. For more information, see Managing the list of Stake out items.
- In the map, select the points to be staked out. Tap Stakeout.

- If the Advanced geodetic check box is enabled in the Cogo settings screen, and you select a CSV or TXT file, you must specify the Coordinate type of the points in the file. Select Grid points or Grid (local) points.
- If the points in the file are Grid (local) points, select the transformation to use to transform them to grid points:
To assign the transformation later, select Not applied, this will be defined later. Tap Accept.
- To create a new display transformation, select Create new transformation. Tap Next and complete the required steps. See Transformations.
- To select an existing display transformation, select Select transformation. Select the display transformation from the list. Tap Accept.
