Measure code options
To configure options when measuring using Measure codes, tap Options when viewing the Measure codes form. (In portrait mode, swipe right to left along the row of softkeys to view the Options softkey.)
Measure codes has + and ‑ softkeys that enable you to apply a suffix to the code on the button. This is useful when you use the stringing method for feature coding.
Select the format of the suffix from the String suffix field. You can select 1, 01, 001, or 0001.
The Auto measure check box controls whether the software starts measuring as soon as you move from the Measure codes screen to the Measure topo or Measure point screen. Clear the Auto measure check box if you want to be able to change measurement settings, such as the measurement method or the antenna or target height before you start the measurement.
To make the attribute form appear when a point is stored for which there are required attributes but no value has yet been entered, tap Options and select Prompt for attributes.
When Prompt for attributes is enabled:
- If you already entered attributes by tapping the Attrib softkey, you are not prompted for attributes.
- If attributes that are set as required are assigned a default value in the feature library, you are not prompted for attributes.
You can configure the Trimble Access software to provide attributes for the complete code, or from a portion of the code – known as the "base code".
Typically, base codes are used when you use the + and ‑ softkeys to "string" feature codes. For example, when you code a fence where all observations coded "Fence01" are joined together and all observations coded "Fence02" are joined together, and so on, and they all have the same attributes. In this example, you can create feature code libraries that contain all the "Fence**" codes, or contain just the base code "Fence".
If you do string codes, and the feature library includes only the base code, then select the Use attributes of base code check box.
If you do not string codes, or if you do string codes but you include the entire code in the feature library, then you are not using base codes and you should clear the Use attributes of base code check box.
In the Trimble Access software, you can use Measuring and coding observations in one step to create a code button that contains a numeric or alpha‑numeric code (the base code) and then append a numeric suffix using the + and ‑ softkeys.
For codes entered into any other code field in the Trimble Access software, you cannot use the + and ‑ softkeys to append a suffix, so when you use base codes, the software can only attempt to determine the base code by stripping the numeric characters from the end of the codes.
The following rules help to explain the base code:
-
When Use attributes of base code is enabled, the code entered on a button is the base code.
Enter "Fence", string the code to become "Fence01", the attributes are derived from "Fence".
-
When Use attributes of base code is disabled, the code displayed on a button is the base code.
Enter "Fence", string the code to become "Fence01", the attributes are derived from "Fence01".
- If you edit or change the code on a button, the base code resets, using rule 1 or rule 2 above.
- If you change the configuration of the Use attributes of base code setting, the base code resets, using rule 1 or rule 2 above.
- When Measure codes passes the code to the Measure topo or Measure points screen, the base code from within Measure codes is retained.
- If you use attributes and numeric codes with a string suffix, you must use Measure codes to define the suffix and start the measurement. Measure codes understands where the code ends and the suffix starts. If you do not use Measure codes, the entire numeric code + suffix will be treated as the code, the suffix cannot be determined, and attributes for the base code will not be available.
- You cannot string numeric only codes when Use attributes of base code disabled.
- If the Use attributes of base code check box is selected, it is applied throughout the software.
Select the Single tap to measure check box to speed up your workflow and open the Measure topo or Measure point screen with a single tap of the appropriate code button. If the Auto measure check box in the Options screen is selected, the software will begin measuring the observation as soon as the Measure topo or Measure point screen opens.
Clear the Single tap to measure check box if you prefer to edit the code before measuring, for example when adding a string suffix or adding additional codes to the observation.
When the Single tap to measure check box is not selected, you must double-tap each code button to add the code to the Code field when the Multi‑code button is enabled.
