Instrument video
To view the Video feed from the instrument, tap in the map toolbar or tap the Instrument icon in the status bar to open the Instrument functions screen and then tap Video.
The Video feed is available when connected to a Trimble SX10 or SX12 scanning total station or a Trimble VX spatial station or Trimble S Series total station that has Trimble VISION technology.
Video is not available when connected to a Trimble VX spatial station or Trimble S Series total station using a serial cable.
Use the video feed from the instrument's integrated camera to:
- See the telescope's field of view on the controller screen, eliminating the need to look through the telescope.
- Control the instrument movement from the Video screen.
- Capture images.
- View features from multiple sources in 3D, overlaid on the Video screen.
- Measure with DR more easily.
- Verify that all required measurements have been taken.
- Document important visual information, for example site conditions.
To switch back to the map, tap in the Video toolbar.
You can use the CAD toolbar to create line, arc, and polygon features using control codes as you measure points. To view the CAD toolbar in the video feed you must have enabled the CAD toolbar in the map, started a survey, and opened the Measure topo or Measure codes form. Tap in the map toolbar to switch to the video feed and measure points using the CAD toolbar.
Instruments that have Trimble VISION technology are equipped with one or more built‑in cameras.
For all instruments, if the camera in use is not coaxial with the EDM then you need a distance to correct for the parallax.
When using a Trimble SX10 or SX12 scanning total station:
- The Telecamera is coaxial, so there is no parallax.
- The Primary and Overview cameras are non‑coaxial.
- The EDM automatically measures distance when the Video screen is open, so the EDM does not need to be in tracking mode. When the EDM is getting a return, the inner crosshair in the Video screen appears and is correcting for any parallax.
When using a Trimble VX Series or S Series instrument that has Trimble VISION technology:
- The instrument has a single camera that is non‑coaxial.
- You must put the EDM into tracking mode to obtain a distance so that the inner crosshair in the Video screen appears and is correcting for the parallax.
Because of the resolution of the video image, there may be a difference of up to one pixel between the crosshair in the video image and the crosshair viewed through the telescope. This difference can be seen with all overlaid data.
Snapshots taken between 3°36' (4 gon) and the zenith will not be directly matched to the point data in the Trimble RealWorks Survey software.
Features defined in 3D are overlaid onto the video image to show them in 3D. Overlaid features can come from multiple sources:
- points, lines, arcs, and polylines in the job
- points from linked jobs and linked CSV files
- BIM models (SX10/SX12 video only)
- coded features from feature libraries
- scan point clouds from .rwcx scan files and .tsf scan files
- inspection point clouds created using the surface inspection cogo function
To manage the data that is visible in the Video screen, tap in the Video toolbar.
To change the appearance of data in the Video screen, tap to open the Video Settings. See Video settings.
- Features can be displayed only if they are defined in 3D. This requires that a full 3D station setup has been completed, with a station elevation and instrument height defined.
- Features displayed in the video screen cannot be selected.
- Only grid coordinates are displayed. If you have not defined a projection, only points stored as grid coordinates appear.
- If there is a point with the same name as another point in the database, the point with the higher search class is displayed. For more information about how the software uses search classes, see Database search rules.
