Configuration files
Trimble Access uses various files to add functionality or modify the behavior of the software.
Some of these files are installed onto the controller with the Trimble Access software, and other additional files are available here for download.
Feature library (FXL) files define feature codes, attributes, linework and symbology used in Trimble Access. FXL files can also define control codes that define the relationship between points so that the geometry of a line or polygon is drawn in the map. For more information, see Feature library.
This file is installed to the Trimble Data / System Files folder on the controller with the software.
Global Features FXL
The GlobalFeatures.fxl feature library file has feature codes set up for points, attributes, lines and symbols, and control codes for drawing features using the CAD toolbar. You can use the file to see how the feature library files makes it easy to enter attributes, draw features using the CAD toolbar, or measure and code features in one step using Measure codes.
Use a cadastral tolerance XML file to set up the controller so that Trimble Access automatically checks tolerances for cadastral points in the job. For information, see Cadastral point tolerance checks.
Cadastral Tolerances XML
The sample CadastralTolerances.xml file provides example codes and includes notes that explain how the file works, and what can be configured.
Use an ESD file to connect to an echo sounder to measure the depth of positions on the sea floor or under water. For more information, see Echo sounders.
These files are installed to the Trimble Data / System Files folder on the controller with the software.
CeeStar Basic High Freq
Use this ESD file to connect to any CeeStar Dual Frequency echo sounder using BASIC output format, when the High Frequency depth is to be stored. The unit must be set to output 'prefixes' and not 'commas' in the output data Menu / Advanced / Prefix / Comma outfm set to [Use prefix].
CeeStar Basic Low Freq
Use this ESD file to connect to any CeeStar Dual Frequency echo sounder using BASIC output format, when the Low Frequency depth is to be stored. The unit must be set to output 'prefixes' and not 'commas' in the output data Menu / Advanced / Prefix / Comma outfm set to [Use prefix].
NMEA SDDBT device
Use this ESD file to connect to any generic echo sounder device that can output the NMEA DBT (Depth Below Transducer) sentence. The "talker ID" must send the standard "SD" identifier (so that output lines all begin with "$SDDBT,..". Trimble Access will accept the data in feet, meters, or fathoms and will convert values as appropriate.
SonarMite
Use this ESD file to connect to any SonarMite device. The unit will be switched into 'Engineering mode' (output format 0) and other settings may be adjusted by Trimble Access.
If your echo sounder is not supported by one of the ESD files installed as standard with Trimble Access, you may be able to download it here, or adapt a suitable similar file.

Use a ULD file to connect to a utility locator to measure the location of underground assets such as cables and pipes. For more information, see Utility locators.
Each ULD file includes examples and tips for pairing with and using that locator.
These files are installed to the Trimble Data / System Files folder on the controller with the software.
RD8100
Use theRD8100.ULD file with the GlobalFeatures.fxl file to set up your job for measuring points using the Radio Detection RD8100 cable and pipe locator.
vLoc3
Use thevLoc3.ULD file with the GlobalFeatures.fxl file to set up your job for measuring points using the Vivax Metrotech vLoc3-Pro receiver, when fitted with the vLoc3 Series Bluetooth Module.
