Showing only some items in a BIM model
When viewing a complex BIM model, the items you are most interested in may be hard to view because they are obscured by other objects, the model may not have well defined layers, or a layer may contain many items.
The tools in the BIM toolbar enable you to more easily isolate and view the data in the BIM model you are most interested in. Use the Organizer to select items by groups that have been created in the Trimble Connect Organizer, and/or use the Show only and Hide buttons on the BIM toolbar to filter items in the BIM model in the map.
The BIM toolbar automatically appears next to the Map toolbar when at least one BIM model has at least one layer set to selectable in the map. If the BIM toolbar is not shown, tap on the Map toolbar and then select BIM toolbar.
The Trimble Connect Organizer enables items in one or more BIM models to be organized into groups, for example by project phase, object type or location (floors or sections). For more information on setting up groups, see Organizer in the Trimble Connect Workflow Extensions User Guide.
A Trimble Connect Business Premium license is required to create Organiser groups.
Organizer groups that have been created in the Trimble Connect Organizer and saved as manual groups are available in Trimble Access for BIM models downloaded from the cloud. Rule-based Organizer groups are not supported in Trimble Access.
-
Tap Organizer on the BIM toolbar.
The Organizer form appears alongside the map. It shows any manual groups created in the Trimble Connect Organizer that are relevant to the BIM models that are at least partially selectable in the map. Partially selectable means that at least one layer in the BIM model is set to selectable in the Layer manager.
-
Tap the arrow next to a group name to view subgroups.
The first number next to a group name shows the total number of items in a group. The second number shows the number of items in subgroups.
-
Tap the name of a group or subgroup to select or deselect the group.
A checkmark next to the group or subgroup name indicates items in the group are selected. Selected items are highlighted in the map:
-
Selecting more than one subgroup in the same group creates a combination so that items in any of the selected subgroups are selected in the map.
-
Selecting more than one group or subgroups in different groups creates an intersection so that only items that are in all of the selected groups or subgroups are selected in the map.
A gray checkmark next to a group or subgroup name indicates that some items in the group cannot be selected because they appear in layers in the BIM model that are not selectable. If the name of a group or subgroup is gray then it references layers in the BIM model that are not selectable. You must set the layer to selectable in the Layer manager before you can select the group or subgroup in the Organizer form.

To filter items in the map based on the selection in the Organizer form, tap the Show only or Hide button on the BIM toolbar. See Showing and hiding selected items below.
-
To close the Organizer form, tap Close.
Existing map selections are cleared when you open or close the Organizer form, and when you enable or disable the BIM toolbar.
The Show only and Hide buttons on the BIM toolbar are not active (cannot be selected) until you select one or more items in the BIM model from the map using the selection tools on the Map toolbar or the BIM toolbar.
The Undo and Reset buttons on the BIM toolbar are not active until you have used the Show only or Hide buttons.
-
From the map select one or more items in the BIM model. Alternatively, select items using Organizer groups. See Selecting items using Organizer groups above.
The items you select do not have to be in the same layer or in the same BIM file.
-
Tap Hide on the BIM toolbar.
When you tap :
-
The items you selected are no longer visible. The software always hides the Whole object even if the Surface selection mode is set to Individual faces in the Map settings screen.
-
The Show only and Hide buttons on the BIM toolbar are inactive, because there are no longer any selected items.
-
In the Map files tab of the Layer manager, the check mark next to the BIM file name changes to to indicate that some parts of the BIM file are no longer visible and no longer selectable. The check mark next to the name of the layer or layers containing the items you selected also changes to .

To undo the previous filtering action, tap Undo on the BIM toolbar.
To undo all previous filtering actions and reset the map, tap Reset on the BIM toolbar.
-
If all items in a layer are hidden using the tools on the BIM toolbar, then that layer is no longer eligible for selection. To be able to select items in that layer you must use the Layer manager to return the layer to fully visible.
-
Any changes you make in the Map files tab of the Layer manager override any filtering actions you make using the BIM toolbar, and will affect the current filter. For example:
-
Tap the icon next to any layer to return the layer to fully visible and selectable.
-
Tap the icon next to any BIM file name to return all layers in the file to fully visible and selectable.
