Internet Base Station Service (IBSS)

The Trimble IBSS service provides an easy way for you to stream RTK corrections over the internet from a base receiver you have set up to rover receivers. Once you have set up the GNSS receiver as a base station and chosen IBSS as your base data link, RTK corrections are automatically sent to any rover that is also using IBSS in the same Trimble Connect project. No separate configuration for the corrections server is needed.

You can set up multiple IBSS mountpoints in a project, one per base receiver. The base receiver can be in a permanent fixed position or it can be a temporary base that you set up each day. IBSS mountpoints exist until you delete them, regardless of whether a base is broadcasting corrections. This allows you to use the same mountpoint, day after day, even if you are shifting your base to different locations in the project.

As many rover receivers as required can use the RTK corrections provided by IBSS within the same Trimble Connect project.

To use IBSS in Trimble Access, the IBSS mountpoint must be created in a project that resides in Trimble Connect. If your organization streams IBSS via Trimble Connected Community (TCC) or Works Manager, those IBSS mountpoints are not available in Trimble Access.
If you are using a Spectra Geospatial GNSS receiver, only the SP100 GNSS receiver can be used as a rover or a base receiver with IBSS. SP60, SP80, SP85 and SP90m GNSS receivers can only be used as rover receivers with IBSS.

To configure the survey style to use IBSS

For the rover:

Tap and select Settings / Survey styles. Select the required survey style. Tap Edit.
Tap Rover data link.
Set the Type field to Internet connection.
Tap next to the GNSS correction source field to open the GNSS correction source tab of the Connections screen and then tap the IBSS GNSS correction source to select it.
To set security options for the connection, tap Edit.

By default, the connection uses Enhanced security and encrypts the data using Transport Layer Security (TLS) internet data encryption on port 2105. If your network firewall does not support TLS encryption, select Maximum compatibility. When Maximum compatibility is selected, unencrypted data is sent using port 2101. Tap Store.
Tap Accept.

When you select the IBSS GNSS correction source then the following settings are set automatically:
- Controller internet is selected as the GNSS internet source. The software will connect to the internet using the controller's internet connection.
- The Prompt for GNSS internet source setting is set to No.
Tap Accept to save your changes in the Rover data link screen.
Tap Store to save your changes to the survey style.

For the base:

Tap and select Settings / Survey styles. Select the required survey style. Tap Edit.
Tap Base data link.
Set the Type field to Internet connection.
Tap next to the GNSS correction source field to open the GNSS correction source tab of the Connections screen and then tap the IBSS GNSS correction source to select it and then tap Accept.
To set security options for the connection, tap Edit.

Tap Accept.
To select the GNSS internet source (how the GNSS base will connect to the internet for GNSS corrections), tap to open the GNSS internet source screen and select the required GNSS internet source.

Typically, you will use Receiver internet - modem or Receiver internet - Wi‑Fi and these options do not usually require further configuration.

Otherwise, you might use Receiver modem to use the modem in an older Trimble receiver such as the R10-1 or R8s to connect to the internet, or Controller internet if you can leave the controller connected to the receiver at the base.

Tap Accept.
Tap Accept to save your changes in the Base data link screen.
Tap Store to save your changes to the survey style.

To connect a base receiver to the IBSS service

Connect the controller to the internet and in Trimble Access sign in using your Trimble ID.
Open the Trimble Connect project. To create an IBSS mountpoint in a Trimble Connect project you must be a project administrator.

If you created the project in Trimble Connect or if you uploaded a local project to the cloud in Trimble Access, you are automatically a project administrator.
Open or create a job in the Trimble Connect project.
Make sure the survey style has IBSS selected as the Base data link.
To start a base survey, tap and select Measure and select the survey style you have configured to use IBSS, and then select Start base receiver.
To add an IBSS mountpoint, tap Create, enter the name of the mountpoint and tap Create.
Select the IBSS mountpoint to use and then tap Accept.
In the Start base screen, enter the base point name, base coordinates, and antenna height. Tap Start.

Trimble Access starts the survey, sending the base corrections to rovers using that IBSS mountpoint in the Trimble Connect project.

To connect a rover receiver to the IBSS service

Connect the controller to the internet and in Trimble Access sign in using your Trimble ID.
Open or create a job in the Trimble Connect project that contains the IBSS mountpoint you want to use.
Make sure the survey style has IBSS selected as the Rover data link.
To start the rover survey, tap and select Measure or Stakeout, select the survey style you have configured to use IBSS, and then select the software function to use, for example Measure points.

The software shows a list of IBSS mountpoints that are currently sending corrections to the Trimble Connect project.
Select the IBSS mountpoint you want to receive corrections from and then tap Accept.

The survey starts and the status bar shows corrections are being received.
You are now ready to start measuring or staking out.
