To configure a rover internet data link

  1. Tap and select Settings / Survey styles. Select the required survey style. Tap Edit.
  2. Select Rover data link.
  3. Set the Type field to Internet connection.

  4. To select the GNSS correction source (where the Trimble Access software will obtain RTK corrections from), tap to open the GNSS correction source tab of the Connections screen and select the GNSS correction source you have set up and then tap Accept.

    • To configure settings for a new GNSS correction source, tap New.

    • To change the settings for an existing GNSS correction source, select the source in the list and tap Edit.

  5. Select the Prompt for GNSS correction source check box if you want the software to ask which GNSS correction source to use at the start of each survey.

  6. To select the GNSS internet source (how the GNSS rover will connect to the internet for GNSS corrections), tap to open the GNSS internet source screen and select the required GNSS internet source and then tap Accept.

    • To configure settings for a new GNSS internet source, tap Add.

    • To change the settings for an existing GNSS internet source, select the source in the list and tap Edit.

  7. Select the Prompt for GNSS internet source check box if you want the software to ask which GNSS internet source to use at the start of each survey.

  8. Tap Accept.

  9. Tap Store to save your changes to the survey style.

  1. Set the Use RTX (internet) switch to Yes.
  2. In the Mountpoint name field, select the mountpoint appropriate for your RTX subscription and region. The RTXIP mountpoint is for global RTX corrections, while others are particular to specific network coverage areas.
  3. If required, set the Use proxy server switch to Yes and then enter the proxy server address in the Proxy server field and enter the Proxy server port.
  4. Tap Store.
  1. Set the Use RTX (internet) switch to No.
  2. Set the Use NTRIP switch to Yes.
  3. To force the Trimble Access software to always use NTRIP version 1.0, select the Use NTRIP v1.0 check box.
  4. If the NTRIP server:
    • uses a proxy server, set the Use proxy server switch to Yes and then enter the proxy server address in the Proxy server field and enter the Proxy server port.
    • does not use a proxy server, set the Use proxy server switch to No.

  5. To connect to a mountpoint on starting a survey without being prompted for the mountpoint name, set the Connect directly to Mountpoint switch to Yes and then enter the Mountpoint name.

    If a mountpoint name is not specified, the system will prompt you when you start a survey. Your selection will then be stored in the GNSSCorrectionSource.xml file in the Trimble Data\System Files folder. If the specified mountpoint cannot be accessed when you start the survey, a list with available mountpoints appears.

  6. If a user name and password are required to use NTRIP server, enter the details in the NTRIP username and NTRIP password fields.

  7. In the IP Address and IP port fields, enter the information for the NTRIP server that were sent to you from the data provider.

  8. If the rover must supply identification information through regular NMEA messages to the base data server, select the Send user identity info check box. At the start of the survey, the software asks you to enter this information.

  9. If the server Trimble Access is connecting to requires Transport Layer Security (TLS) internet data encryption, set the Use TLS encryption switch to Yes. This setting supports TLS version 1.2 or later.

  10. Tap Store.

  1. Set the Use RTX (internet) switch to No.
  2. Set the Use NTRIP switch to No.

  3. In the IP Address and IP port fields, enter the information for the broadcast server that were sent to you from the data provider.

  4. If the rover must supply identification information through regular NMEA messages to the base data server, select the Send user identity info check box. At the start of the survey, the software asks you to enter this information.

  5. If the server Trimble Access is connecting to requires Transport Layer Security (TLS) internet data encryption, set the Use TLS encryption switch to Yes. This setting supports TLS version 1.2 or later.

  6. Tap Store.
  1. Set the Use RTX (internet) switch to No.
  2. Set the Use NTRIP switch to No.

  3. In the IP Address and IP port fields, enter the information displayed in the IP Settings of this base field in the Base screen displayed on the controller at the base.

    If the IP address of the base controller appears to be invalid, Trimble recommends that you perform a soft reset of the device before you connect to the internet and start the base.

  4. If the rover must supply identification information through regular NMEA messages to the base data server, select the Send user identity info check box. At the start of the survey, the software asks you to enter this information.
  5. Tap Store.

When Controller internet is the GNSS internet source, you can:

  • Connect the controller to the internet using the SIM card in the controller or using a previously configured connection to a Wi-Fi network.

  • Connect the controller to the receiver using Bluetooth or a serial cable.

  • Use the internet connection for other functions during the RTK survey, not just receiving RTK data. Other functions include downloading projects and jobs or sending email.

To configure Controller internet as the GNSS internet source:

  1. In the Rover data link screen of the survey style, tap next to the GNSS internet source field and select the connection named Controller internet.

  2. If you have not yet configured the Controller internet connection, tap Config in the GNSS internet source screen to open the operating system connection settings screen and set up the connection. See Internet connection setup.

  3. In the GNSS internet source screen tap Accept to return to the Rover data link screen.

  4. Tap Store.

When Receiver internet - modem or Receiver internet - Wi-Fi is the GNSS internet source, the internet connection can be used only for receiving RTK data. You cannot use the Receiver internet connection for other functions, such as downloading projects and jobs or sending email.

When Receiver internet - modem is the GNSS internet source:

  • The receiver must be a Trimble receiver with an internal modem running firmware released after 2017.

  • The receiver must have a SIM card inserted.

To configure receiver internet as the GNSS internet source:

  1. In the Rover data link screen of the survey style, tap next to the GNSS internet source field and select the Receiver internet connection that is most appropriate for your equipment setup. Select:

    • Receiver internet - modem if the receiver is a Trimble receiver with an internal modem

    • Receiver internet - Wi-Fi if the receiver can connect over Wi-Fi to another device that is connected to the internet, such as a cell phone or MiFi device.

    In most cases, you will not need to edit the Receiver internet connection settings.

  2. Tap Accept to return to the Rover data link screen.
  3. If the SIM card in the receiver has a PIN, enter the PIN in the Modem pin field.
  4. Tap Store.

If you try the connection and it does not work, further configuration may be required:

  1. In the GNSS internet source field, tap to open the GNSS internet source screen.

  2. Select the Receiver internet connection and tap Edit.

  3. In the APN field, tap to choose the method for selecting the Access Point Name (APN) for the internet service provider. This is the service provider that provided the SIM card in the receiver:

    • Choose SIM default to use the APN profile directly from the SIM card in the receiver.

    • Choose Select Access Point Name (APN) to select your Location and your Provider and plan from the APN wizard in Trimble Access. Tap Accept.

    • Choose Load from modem to connect to the modem and load and store the APN information from the modem to the GNSSInternetSource.xml file in the Trimble Data\System Files folder. The stored settings will be used whenever you use this internet connection.

      The Load from modem option is available only if the receiver has firmware version 5.50 or later installed.

  4. Enter the Cellular username and Cellular password. By default these fields are both set to guest.
  5. Tap Accept.
  6. In the GNSS internet source screen, tap Accept.
  7. Tap Store.

If you have another device such as an older receiver or a mobile phone that supports the Bluetooth DUN service, you can connect the controller to the internet through that device. You can also connect the controller to the internet through a separate smartphone.

The internet connection is available for other functions during the RTK survey, not just receiving RTK data. Other functions include downloading projects and jobs or sending email.

To connect to the internet through a receiver or a mobile phone that is not a smartphone:

  • The modem in the device must support the Bluetooth DUN service.

  • The receiver must be an older Trimble receiver, such as the R10-1 or R8s.

If your receiver does not support Bluetooth DUN and you want to be able to use the internet on the controller, you must use a Controller internet connection.
