GNSS base receiver setup

To set up and connect your surveying equipment when using a Trimble integrated GNSS receiver as a base:

  1. Assemble and erect the equipment at the base:

    1. Set the antenna over the ground mark using a tripod, a tribrach, and a tribrach adaptor.
    2. Use the tripod clip to hang the receiver on the tripod.

Alternatively, place the receiver in its base case. Run the antenna cable out of the portal in the side of the base case to the antenna so that the case can stay closed while the receiver is running.

    3. Assemble and erect the radio antenna.
  2. If you are using an RTK radio data link using an external radio connected using a cable, connect the controller, receiver, radio and, if required, the power supply:

    1. If you are using a separate GNSS antenna, use the GNSS antenna cable to connect the GNSS antenna to the GNSS receiver port labeled GPS.

When inserting cables, align the red dot on the plug with the red line on the socket and then insert the plug carefully. Do not force plugs into the receiver ports.

    2. Connect the radio antenna to the radio using the cable attached to the antenna.
    3. Connect the radio to the GNSS receiver port 3 using the appropriate cable.
    4. For some third‑party radios, a separate power supply is needed for the radio. If external power is required, connect the power supply with a 0‑shell Lemo connection to port 2 or port 3 on the receiver.
    5. Connect the controller to the GNSS receiver port 1 using the 0‑shell Lemo‑to‑Hirose cable.

If you are using a radio to transmit base data to the rover, make sure that the radio antenna is connected to the radio before you connect it to the receiver and start the base survey. If it is not, the radio will be damaged.

To configure the RTK radio data link in Trimble Access, see To configure a base radio data link.

  3. Turn on the receiver.

  4. Turn on the controller.

  5. If you are using an RTK internet data link or an RTK radio data link using the receiver's integrated radio or a Bluetooth connection to a TDL450B/ADL450B radio, connect the controller to the receiver using Bluetooth.

    1. On the controller, start Trimble Access.
    2. Tap and select Settings / Connections. Select the Bluetooth tab.
    3. In the Connect to GNSS rover field, select the receiver.
    4. Pair with the device.

If you are using a modem in another device such as a mobile phone, turn on the device and connect it to the controller using Bluetooth or a serial cable before you connect the controller to the receiver.

  6. To start the survey, see To start the base survey.
