Instrument Wi-Fi connections

1. Make sure Wi‑Fi is enabled on the controller. If there is no Wi-Fi icon in the operating system status bar, you must enable it.

   To enable Wi‑Fi on a controller running Windows:

   1. Go to the Windows Start menu and tap Settings.
   2. Tap [Networks and Internet].
   3. Enable the Wi-Fi switch.

   To enable Wi‑Fi on a controller running Android:

   1. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
   2. Tap and hold the Wi-Fi icon.
   3. Enable the Wi-Fi switch.
2. In Trimble Access, tap and select Settings / Connections. Select the Wi-Fi tab.

3. If the required instrument is not listed:

   If the controller is running Android, wait for the list of Wi-Fi networks to automatically refresh.

   If the controller is running Windows, tap Scan. The controller scans for Wi‑Fi devices and adds them to the list of Wi-Fi networks.

   In congested Wi-Fi environments it can be useful to set the Wi-Fi channel used by the instrument in the Instrument settings screen. To do this tap and select Instrument / Instrument settings, and then tap Wi-Fi and select the required Wi-Fi channel. If you are using an SX12 with a controller that has an EMPOWER EM130 Wi-Fi HaLow™ module, you can select the Wi-Fi HaLow channel or auto-scan to find the best channel. 4. Select the instrument to connect to from the list of Wi-Fi networks and then tap Accept.

5. When connecting the controller to an SX12 that is running firmware S2.8.x or later for the first time, Trimble Access prompts you to enter the instrument password. When the software connects to the instrument, the password you entered is stored on the controller.

   If the instrument is using the factory default password (for example, when the instrument is being used for the first time, the password has been reset, or if the instrument has returned from service), the software prompts you to change the password. Enter a password at least 8 characters long, with a minimum of one numeric character and one symbol. When the software connects to the instrument, the password you entered is stored in the instrument and on the controller.

   If a password for the selected instrument has previously been saved on the controller, then the software connects to the instrument without prompting you to enter the password.

6. Once the software connects to the instrument, the Wi‑Fi signal strength is shown in the status bar alongside the instrument icon.

To disconnect from the instrument or to switch the connection type between long range radio and Wi‑Fi, tap the instrument icon in the status bar, tap Connections and then tap the appropriate button.

Use the Forget softkeys to forget an instrument or an instrument password.

• To forget an instrument password that is saved on the controller, select an SX12 in the list that is within range and then tap Forget password.

  The next time you attempt to connect to the SX12 the software will prompt you to enter the password.

• To remove an instrument that is no longer required, select an instrument that is not currently within range and then tap Forget.

  To reconnect to the instrument again, you will need to tap the Scan softkey to find the instrument and add it back to the list.
