When installing or upgrading Trimble Access on a Windows controller, you can choose to install existing data files from a predefined folder location, Where required, the files are converted to the current version of Trimble Access when they are opened in Trimble Access.
Installed file types might include:
- Survey styles, job templates
- Feature code libraries
- Control files, DXFs, alignments

If you have modified any predefined Trimble files and saved them with the original name, then those files are replaced with new versions of the predefined files when you upgrade the software, and any custom changes are lost. In this case, you must manually copy the modified files from the local folder and copy them into the appropriate Trimble Data subfolder after the software upgrade. To avoid this, if you modify a predefined format then make sure you save it with a different name.
- In Trimble Installation Manager for Windows, tap . The Settings dialog appears.
- In the Source location field, select the directory on the computer where the custom folder(s) will be located. The default location is C:\Trimble Access Install upload folders\.
- Select the Overwrite existing files check box to replace any existing files on the device that have the same name with the files from the custom folder.
- Tap Create folder. Enter the name of the new custom data folder, for example the name of the customer or project that the files are used by. Tap OK.
- A File Explorer window appears, showing the new custom data folder you created in the Source location directory. The Projects folder and the System files folder are automatically created in the new folder.
-
Place the files you want to install onto the device in the appropriate Projects or System files folder.
For more information on where to place specific file types, see Data folders and files.
-
In Trimble Installation Manager for Windows, return to the Settings dialog. Tap OK.
The Trimble Installation Manager for Windows window automatically refreshes and the folder you created appears below the Custom data folders to upload item in the Install updates tab.
To install custom data files to the device, in Trimble Installation Manager for Windows scroll down to the Custom data folders to upload item in the Install updates tab and select the folder(s) that contain the files to install. Tap Install.
