Survey setup

All surveys in Trimble Access are controlled by a survey style. Survey styles define the parameters for configuring and communicating with your equipment, and for measuring and staking points. This whole set of information is stored as a template and used each time you start a survey.

Trimble Access provides the following default survey styles:

  • Conventional survey styles:

    • SX10 & SX12

    • VX & S Series

  • GNSS survey styles:

    • RTK

    • RTX(SV)

  • Integrated survey styles:

    • IS Rover

Default survey styles are created by Trimble Access when a new installation of the software is started, but only if there are no existing survey styles.

When upgrading from an older version of Trimble Access, survey style files already exist and are upgraded if required but new survey styles are not created. To have Trimble Access recreate the default survey styles shut down Trimble Access, delete all the .sty files from the System Files folder and restart Trimble Trimble Access.

You can use the styles supplied with the system without configuring them, but you can change default settings as required. To view the available survey styles, tap and select Settings / Survey styles.

To modify a survey style, select it and tap Edit. Edit the survey style only if the default settings do not suit your needs.

Survey types

In a conventional survey, the controller is connected to a conventional survey instrument such as a total station, and the survey style configures instrument parameters.

In a GNSS survey, the controller is connected to the rover or base GNSS receiver and the survey style instructs the receiver to perform the functions required for a specific survey type, for example where to obtain real-time corrections from.

In an integrated survey, the controller is connected to both a conventional survey instrument and a GNSS receiver at the same time. The Trimble Access software can quickly switch between the two instruments, within the same job.

In any type of survey you can also connect the controller to additional equipment such as a laser rangefinder or echo sounder.

Measure and stakeout settings

In any type of survey style you can define your preferred settings for:

  • Points
  • Stakeout
  • Duplicate point tolerance

To change these settings during the survey, return to the Survey styles screen and edit the survey style or tap Options in the Measure or Stakeout screen.
