Managing job templates

A template makes it faster and easier to create jobs with the same settings. You can use an existing template file, or you can create the template in Trimble Sync Manager by saving a job as a template.

Templates are useful if you are using survey and civil engineering software such as using AutoCAD Civil 3D, 12d Model, or Bentley civil software, but are not usually required if you use Trimble Business Center because the job properties are inherited from the Trimble Business Center project.

To save a job as a template, in the Project overview screen click and select Save as template. The template uses all the settings configured for the original job but it does not include any attached files.

To view the list of templates for the project, or to delete templates from the project, select the Template tab in the Project properties screen.

Templates are used only to import a set of job properties as you create the job. Deleting a template or replacing a template with a template of the same name has no effect on jobs previously created from the template.

You can add existing template files to the project in the Template tab of the Project properties screen.

Supported template file types are .jxl, .job, or .jot files, created using any version of the Trimble Access or Trimble Business Center software. If required, the files are automatically converted to the latest JXL file format supported in Trimble Access.

To add an existing JXL, .jot or .job file to the project:

  1. Open the project.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Select the Templates tab.
  4. Use File Explorer to drag the file from a network location and drop it into the Templates tab, or click Add to browse to a folder and select the file.
  5. In the Project properties screen, click Update.

To create a job from a template, click the arrow next to the New button at the top of the Project overview screen and select the template. The Create a job screen opens with the job properties copied from the selected template. You can edit the job properties as required before you create the job.
