Creating the map workspace
The map workspace in the Trimble Connect Map Viewer is where the data layers and form templates in your TerraFlex project are created and organized.
As part of creating the map workspace, you will define the coordinate system settings for the project. The Map Viewer, TerraFlex, and the configurable real time correction sources for collecting data for your project all use the same coordinate system settings, and all data you add to the project must be in that same coordinate system. For more information, see Coordinate systems in Map Viewer and TerraFlex.
To create a map workspace:
-
In the project Data Explorer page, click Add then select Create map workspace.
A new browser tab opens showing the Trimble Connect Map Viewer. If a new browser tab doesn't open, check your browser is not automatically blocking pop ups.
If you are already in the Trimble Connect Map Viewer, you can create a map workspace from here. Click then on the Map workspaces slide-out, click + Create new map workspace.
- In the Map workspace details pop-up, enter the Name and Description for the workspace.
- Click Next.
-
Enter the address or city where you will be working.
The map thumbnail updates to show the location you entered.
-
Click Next.
The Map Viewer selects the best coordinate system for the location you entered.
-
Check the coordinate system details shown are correct, particularly the following fields:
-
Datum: The selected datum is important because it determines:
-
how data will be stored in TerraFlex and in the Map Viewer.
-
which real-time GNSS configurations can be used to collect data in the map workspace.
-
what data can be imported into the map workspace.
-
-
Zone: The selected zone is based on the location you entered. Because there is sometimes large overlap between zones, the Map Viewer may occasionally select a neighboring zone to the one you need.
NAD 1983 (2011) is the only local datum supported for locations in continental USA.
-
- Click Done. The map workspace is added to the project.
- You can now create templates and import layers for use in your TerraFlex project.
