TerraFlex permission settings
The software prompts you to allow storage, location, and camera permission the first time you use TerraFlex.
You can choose to allow all three permissions or you can allow only some permissions:
-
Allowing storage, location, and camera permission enables you to use all functionality provided by the TerraFlex software.
-
Denying storage, location, or camera permission will limit the functionality in TerraFlex.
In this case, the software will prompt you to allow permission as required when you are using the software.
If multiple users use the same device, the first user to sign in sets the permissions for every TerraFlex user who uses that device. Subsequent changes to permissions will change the permissions for all users who use the device.
Allowing storage permission enables TerraFlex to store and access files, including photos and media, on your device. The TerraFlex software prompts you to allow storage permission the first time you use TerraFlex. This permission is only requested on Android devices.
Files are stored in the Internal storage/android/data/com.trimble.terraflex/files folder from TerraFlex version 5.6 onward. Previous versions of TerraFlex stored files in the Internal storage/terraflex folder. When you install version 5.6, existing data from the Internal storage/terraflex folder to the Internal storage/android/data/com.trimble.terraflex/files folder. This may include offline project data, user data, and TerraFlex log files.
Cloud-based projects from Trimble Connect don't require storage permissions.
If storage permission is denied when you are first prompted, the software prompts you to allow storage permission if you attempt to load an offline .tfin file using the menu at the top of the projects list.
Allowing location permission enables TerraFlex to use location data from the connected GNSS receiver. If a Trimble GNSS receiver is not connected, it allows TerraFlex to use location data from the internal GPS receiver in your device.
GNSS receivers that are physically attached to the device, such as the TDC150, do not need location permission. However, to use the location from a GNSS receiver connected using Bluetooth, or from the internal GPS receiver, location permission is required.
TerraFlex needs access to your location data so that you can:
-
Capture your current location for your forms.
-
View your current location on the map.
-
View your location history as breadcrumbs on the map.
-
Scan for and connect to Bluetooth devices including GNSS receivers and laser rangefinders.
The TerraFlex software prompts you to allow location permission the first time you open a form.
Tap Allow to connect to any receiver connected to the device, or if there is no Trimble receiver connected TerraFlex will connect to the internal GPS in the device.
If you deny location permission, you cannot capture your current location for your forms. Until you allow location permission, you cannot use TerraFlex.
Allowing camera permission enables TerraFlex to use your camera to capture data.
TerraFlex needs access to your camera so that you can:
-
Capture images and attach them to your forms.
-
Scan barcodes and store them in your forms.
The TerraFlex software prompts you to allow camera permission the first time you fill out a field that requires an image or barcode.
Until you allow camera permission, the software will prompt you to allow permission each time you open a form. To stop seeing the permission request, select the Don't ask again option and then tap Deny.
If you deny camera permission, you cannot capture images or scan barcodes.
As noted above, if you have previously denied permission the software will prompt you to allow the required permission as you attempt to use features of the software. The simplest way to allow permission is to tap Allow in the pop-up permission required message.
If you have previously selected the Don't ask again option, then the software will explain why the permission is required and then show the permission settings in the operating system settings screen so that you can manually manage permissions.
To manually manage permissions:
-
Open the Android or iOS Settings screen on your device.
-
Open Application settings/Application permissions and select TerraFlex to open the TerraFlex App info screen.
-
If required, scroll to Permissions and select it.
-
Enable the Storage, Location, or Camera permissions as required.
-
Return to TerraFlex. There is no need to restart the TerraFlex software.
You can also use these steps to deny permissions you have previously allowed.
