To simulate a connection to a conventional instrument

You can simulate a connection to a basic conventional instrument to make manual observations to test, demonstrate, or deliver training with Trimble Access. This can be useful when you don't have access to a physical instrument.

Simulating a connection to a conventional instrument only simulates the recording of observations which must be manually keyed in. It cannot simulate additional instrument functions such as searching, scanning, panorama capture, or use of the Video screen.

  1. Tap and select Settings / Survey styles.
  2. Tap New.
    1. Enter a name for the style, for example Manual Instrument.
    2. In the Style type field, select Conventional.

    3. Tap Accept.

      The survey style settings pages for the survey style you created are listed.

  3. Select Instrument and tap Edit.
    1. In the Manufacturer field, select Manual.

    2. In the Instrument precisions group box, modify the angle precision and EDM precision thresholds as required.

      You can also modify the Instrument centering error and Backsight centering error. This can be used in an adjustment carried out in Trimble Business Center.

    3. Tap Accept.
  4. Tap Store. The changes you made to the survey style are saved.
  5. Tap and select Measure / [survey style name] / Station setup.
    1. In the Corrections screen, key in the corrections you would like to simulate. Tap Accept.
    2. Define the instrument point. Either select a point in the job or, if you do not have any points in the job, key in the point details. Tap Accept.
    3. Define the backsight point. Either select a point in the job or, if you do not have any points in the job, key in the point details. Select the measurement Method. Tap Measure.

    4. Because the software is not connected to a real instrument you must key in the Manual observation. Enter the Horizontal angle and the Vertical angle. Tap Accept.

      Just as you would when working with a real instrument, you can now view and confirm the measurement before storage.

    5. Tap Store.

      The station set up is now complete and you are ready to survey.

  6. Measure points or stake out points as usual.

  7. Tap and select Measure / End conventional survey. Tap Yes to confirm.
