Using an existing Connect project

Trimble Sync Manager and Trimble Access can handle folders and files as they are published to a Trimble Connect cloud project. This is a useful feature for companies that require some level of automation or where the generation of published files is not part of the project data manager role as the files will be available to Trimble Access so long as the files are published to Trimble Connect.

In the current version of Trimble Access you can browse the files and folders published to the Trimble Connect project and select them for download.

The current version of Trimble Sync Manager displays the published files and folders so that they can be referenced during the job creation process or attributed as important for download to Trimble Access.

Publishing files and folders to Connect cloud

There are various ways to publish files and folders to a Trimble Connect project. These include:

For more information, refer to the documentation for your specific application.

Projects created directly in Trimble Connect must be opened in Trimble Sync Manager or Trimble Access by a user with an Administrator role before new jobs can be uploaded to the cloud by team members who have a User role. When you create the project in Trimble Sync Manager or Trimble Access, the project automatically supports job files.

Configuring filters in Trimble Connect for .job or .JOB files

Trimble Access 2018.00 to the current 2021.20 version, uses the Connect ToDo to transfer Trimble Access field data through the cloud. To minimize the chance of duplicates and conflict, transferring .job files through the Connect file system should be avoided.

To create a filter to prevent the transfer of .job or .JOB files as a filter in global settings and apply to all projects:

  1. Click [Settings] at the top right of the Trimble Connect Sync desktop window. The Preferences screen appears, showing the Filters tab.

  2. To add a filter for .job files, enter a name for the filter in the Filter Description field and enter .job in the File Extension field. Click Add New Filter.

  3. To add a filter for .JOB files, enter a name for the filter in the Filter Description field and enter .JOB in the File Extension field. Click Add New Filter.

  4. Click Done.

This filter is applied to all projects. Job files will be able to be uploaded from Trimble Access for review in Trimble Sync Manager but jobs uploaded to the Connect project will not be able to be downloaded to Trimble Access version 2021.20.

Viewing Connect files in Trimble Sync Manager

The Reference tab in the Project properties screen displays a modified view of files that are published to the Connect cloud project. Files and folders are displayed in Trimble Sync Manager as they are published to the Connect cloud project, with these exceptions:

  • The Project files view shows most folders and files as they appear in Trimble Connect Web.

However, where some file types will be downloaded to a different folder in Trimble Access, the files displayed may be different from the files shown in the File Explorer view.

  • The Configuration folder generated by Trimble Sync Manager and Trimble Access is not shown.

Project files uploaded to the Connect cloud project using Trimble Sync Manager version 1.4.63 and earlier were uploaded to a Configuration folder in Trimble Sync Manager and downloaded to the project folder in Trimble Access. From version 1.5 onward, Trimble Sync Manager shows these files in the project folder.

  • The System files view displays particular file types which are used across multiple projects and which are always downloaded to the Trimble Access / System Files folder, regardless of the folder they are published to in Trimble Connect.

System files uploaded in Trimble Sync Manager are always uploaded to the Configuration folder in the Connect cloud project.

  • Files required for the Pipelines app which are destined for the /Common/Tally folder are not shown.
