Measuring points with feature codes

Assign codes to points to identify the point as a specific feature type. If the feature type for the code is a line or polygon, the line or polygon is drawn on the map as you measure points that use that feature code.

If the feature code has attributes then you can then fill out attribute information for the point. You can configure the Trimble Access software to prompt you to enter the attribute data. See To enter attribute values when measuring a point.

You can add codes to a point from the Measure point, Measure topo or Measure codes form.

Applying codes in Measure point and Measure topo

When using codes in the Measure point or Measure topo form, you must enter the code for every point you measure in the Code field. You can select the code from the list of codes in the Feature Library FXL file, or you can type in the code. If the job is not using an FXL file, you can type in a code to use. See To select feature codes in Measure points or Measure topo.

Applying codes in Measure codes

The Measure codes form provides a faster, more intuitive way to work with codes you have set up in the Feature Library FXL file used by the job. The Measure codes form provides a grid of large buttons, with each button set to a specific code. To measure a point with that code, simply tap the large button for that code. To measure the next point using the same code, tap Enter or press the Enter key.

To measure and code points using Measure codes:

  1. In the Job properties screen, select the Feature Library file to use with the job. See Feature library.

If you are using a feature library file that has groups defined, the groups and the codes within the group are automatically shown in the Measure codes form.

  2. If you need to assign codes to buttons or to change the code on a button, tap and hold the button on the Measure codes form and select a different code. To edit multiple buttons, or to create or manage groups of code buttons tap in the Measure codes form. See To set up code buttons for Measure codes
  3. Measure points using codes. See To measure points in Measure codes.

  4. Use stringing to more easily manage measurement of multiple lines that use the same feature code. See To measure multiple lines in Measure codes.

  5. Use control codes on the CAD toolbar to draw specific shapes such as arcs or polygons. See Controlling feature geometry using control codes.
