Instrument functions

To access the Instrument functions screen, tap the instrument icon in the status bar.

The functions available depend on the instrument that the controller is connected to. A yellow button indicates the function is enabled.

When in the Instrument functions screen, you can use the controller keypad to enter the keypad character (1–9, 0, - or .) indicated on the tile to enable/disable the function or open the appropriate screen. If you have configured a function key on the controller as a shortcut to an instrument function, you can press the configured function key when viewing any screen in the software.

EDM and laser pointer controls

To switch EDM measurement mode, tap the first button in the Instrument functions screen to cycle through the available modes.

For most Trimble instruments, when you select:
- STD, the instrument is in EDM Standard mode, where it averages the angles while a standard distance measurement is taken.
- FSTD, the instrument is in EDM Fast Standard mode, where it averages the angles while a fast standard measurement is taken.
- TRK, the instrument is in EDM Tracking mode, where it constantly measures distances and updates them in the status line.
Fast Standard mode is not available for the Trimble SX10 or SX12 scanning total station.
For a Trimble C3 and C5 total station, when you select:
- Normal, the instrument averages the angles while a standard distance measurement is taken.
- Fast, the instrument averages the angles while a fast standard measurement is taken.
- Precise, the instrument constantly measures distances and updates them in the status line.

To enable or disable the laser pointer, tap Laser or 3R HP Laser. To configure EDM settings, tap and hold the Laser or 3R HP Laser button.

To enable or disable DR mode, tap DR. To configure EDM settings, tap and hold the DR button.

Instrument controls

To open the Video screen, tap Video. See Instrument video.
To view the Joystick screen, tap Joystick. See Joystick.
To view the Turn to screen, tap Turn to. See Turn to.
To change the instrument face, tap Change Face. See To measure points in two faces.

Target controls

To turn on or turn off target illumination, tap TIL. To configure target illumination settings, tap and hold the TIL button. See Target illumination.
To enable the tracklight, tap Tracklight. To configure Tracklight settings, tap and hold the Tracklight button. See Tracklight.
To turn on target lock, tap the second button on the last row in the Instrument functions screen.

Depending on the configured target lock mode, the button shows Autolock, FineLock or LR FineLock. The button is yellow when target lock is enabled. To configure the target lock mode, tap and hold the button. See Target control settings.
To search for the target, tap Search. To configure the search window, tap and hold the button. See Target control settings.

Instrument setup

To view the Electronic level screen, tap Level. See Electronic level.
If the instrument is a Trimble SX10 or SX12 scanning total station, tap Connections to switch connection method, end the survey, or disconnect from the instrument. See Instrument Connections screen.
If the instrument is a Trimble VX spatial station or Trimble S Series total station:
- To start operating the instrument from the controller, tap Start Robotic. Tap and hold the Start Robotic button to view the Radio settings tab in the Connections screen.
- To end the survey or disconnect from the instrument, tap End survey or Disconnect.
To view the Survey Basic screen, tap Survey Basic. See Survey Basic.

Survey functions

If the instrument is a Trimble SX10 or SX12 scanning total station, the Instrument functions screen includes buttons for starting and ending a survey.

To perform a station setup and start a conventional survey, tap Station setup.

To end the survey, tap End survey.
