To stake out the side slope from an alignment

To customize the stations available for stakeout, tap next to the Station field to view the Select station screen. See Stations available for stakeout.

  1. Select Side slope from alignment in the Stake field.

  2. Tap next to the Station field and select the station or enter a nominal station value.

  3. Tap Side slope.
  4. Select the Hinge derivation method. Complete the appropriate fields to define the hinge, offset to the alignment, and the side slope. See Hinge derivation methods.

  5. If construction offsets are required, tap and hold in the map and select Define construction offsets. Enter values in the Construction offsets field. See Construction offsets.
  6. Tap Start.
  7. Navigate to the point.

The elevation of your current position and the side slope value defined by your current position are shown.

When you are within 3 m of the target the plan view shows your current position along with the target. A dashed line connects the side slope catch position (the point where the side slope intersects with the ground) to the side slope hinge position.

To switch between the plan view and the cross section view, tap .

The cross section shows your current position and the target, and is orientated in the direction of increasing station. Construction offset(s) appear as green lines. If construction offsets are specified, the smaller single circle indicates the selected position and the double circle indicates the selected position adjusted for the construction offset(s).

If you are staking to a catch point with construction offsets, navigate to the catch point and then tap Apply to add the construction offsets. You are prompted to apply the offsets from your current position. If you are not on the catch position, select No, navigate to the catch position and then tap Apply again. See Catch point..

To store the catch position and the construction offset, see Construction offsets.

  8. When the point is within tolerance, tap Measure to measure the point.

When using a Trimble SX12 scanning total station in TRK mode with the laser pointer enabled, the Stakeout screen shows the Mark point softkey instead of the Measure softkey. Tap Mark point to put the instrument into STD mode. The laser pointer stops flashing and moves to position itself at the EDM location. When you tap Accept to store the point, the instrument automatically returns to TRK mode and the laser pointer resumes flashing. To remeasure and update the stakeout deltas, tap Measure after you tap Mark point and before you tap Accept. For more information, see EDM settings.

  9. Tap Accept to store the point.
  10. If you selected the View before storage option, the staked deltas you selected in the Stakeout options screen are shown. Tap Store.
  11. Continue measuring points along the alignment. To select the previous station, tap the Sta‑ softkey. To select the next station, tap the Sta+ softkey.

Alternatively, tap next to the Station field to open the Select station screen and then from the Auto increment field select Sta- or Sta+ to automate the selection of the previous or next station.

To also stake the appropriate hinge position, tap Select>> and select the Hinge point (Cut) or Hinge point (Fill) option.
